The bottom line here is that if you have joint pain during menstruation, there are simple things you can do to relieve your discomfort. First of all, you should know that it is not normal to have joint pain before your period or during your menstrual cycle, let alone any time of the month. Joint pain is not a usual symptom of PMS. Your joints were made to work, and not to be painful.
The joints we are talking about can really be any joints in the body – hip, knee, leg, back, neck, SI (sacroiliac) joint, leg, ankle, wrist, finger, etc. Joint stiffness and inflammation set in and make it difficult to move the joint freely and thus symptoms are born. Here’s a list of what to do for how to relieve joint pain during your period (and during the rest of the month):
1. Get in the sauna. A sauna will facilitate a detoxification reaction, which will move out joint inflammation and stiffness. Recommended time frame: 10-20 minutes, 20 minutes only when you’ve been doing saunas for awhile.
2. Drink an extra quart and a half of water. Water is an amazing healer. Everything dissolves in water, including toxins.
3. Take your omega 3 fats. The normal dosage is 2000 mg per day of omega 3 fats, which is the combination of EPA and DHA.
4. Take Cat’s Claw herb. This herb is amazing for joint pain, as it decreases inflammation within a few hours. Dosage is 2 capsules 500 mg twice daily.
5. Hang upside down on an inversion table. You don’t have to stay upside down for more than 10 seconds at a time. This works well for those who have joint pain in the spine.
6. Get your bed checked for magnetism. I found this one out the hard way when an expert in building biology tested my bed with a compass. If the compass needle deflects more than 3 degrees, the bed is magnetized. This means the body can’t get a good night of sleep and the cells are confused, not knowing which way to orient themselves. It’s similar to the poor birds who get lost on their long flights home.
7. Get to the chiropractor. There’s no one better than a chiropractor for getting your joints in better health.
8. Take your period vitamin. This is a combination of vitamins and minerals and herbs that support your body during your period and throughout the month. Let’s face it; your needs for nutrients are vastly different than those of your brother, mother, father and grandmother. One of the secrets to health is to get the right amount of nutrients during every part of your life.
9. Ask your mom and grandma for other home remedies that may help. They may refer you to herbs such as devil’s claw, alfalfa, or even chuchuhuasi. Always follow the recommendations on the label of the bottle, as each company creates their herbals differently. Many of them are now making the herbs up to 40 times more potent than their normal state, which is why it’s difficult to give a recommendation here of dosage. As long as you know the herbs to use to decrease joint pain, this is your first step. Your second step is to read the label and follow instructions.
PMS joint pain relief is possible. But you have to get started and get busy. Make a plan and stick to it. Your persistence is what counts.
