A Must Try 5 Effective Home Remedies
Some people use homeopathic remedies for menstrual headache but I don’t. I can’t seem to grasp why it’s a smart way to cure a headache when there are other more real causes of a headache that should be addressed.
It seems to me that taking and using a homeopathic remedy is like taking an aspirin for everything – all it does is cover up the real reason for the headache in the first place.
A homeopathic remedy is a diluted substance that is calibrated for a certain frequency on the electromagnetic scale. When you take a few drops of it, the frequency of the substance is picked up by the body and supposedly elevates you to that frequency.
Well, I don’t know about you, but without looking at real studies on something so obscure, I’d use something else to try first for a menstrual headache remedy. Herbals and vitamins and minerals make a lot more sense, as they provide real nutrition in the form of nutrients that the body needs – and that most of us are deficient in.
So what can you do for your headache during your period or during the PMS phase? Well, why not start with these 5 home remedies which are herbs or foods?
- Feverfew reduces migraine pain in about 70% of those who take it daily. This may be due to the medicinal constituent called parthenolide which stops spasming blood vessels. How much to take: 250 mg daily, even when you are not having a headache.
- Foods are also important and buckwheat can decrease your inflammation which may be associated with a PMS headache. It also provides quite a bit of flavonoids and quercitin which work as antioxidants. Antioxidants can quench up extra free radicals that may be causing the headache in the first place. Buckwheat pancakes are easy to make. Just use your regular pancake recipe and substitute buckwheat flour for the whole wheat flour. They are very tasty.
- Ginger is another anti-inflammatory herb that can reduce your headaches related to your period. Your best bet is to get it fresh, slice it thinly and make up a dish with beef, broccoli and a pound of ginger. You’ll be amazed at how good this tastes, plus how quickly your headache goes away.
- Butterbur herb is a migraine headache relieving herb that is good for headaches that don’t last long but are very intense. It’s also for headaches that may be on one side of the head, not both. At the Albert Einstein College, 245 migraine sufferers consented to try the herb and 68% of them said that their headache was 50% improved. That’s pretty significant!
- Willow bark had been used for decades before aspirin came on the scene to reduce pain and headaches. All you need for this one is a teaspoon of the powdered herb and a cup of boiling water. Steep the herb in the water as tea and when it cools, drink away your headache.
Menstruation doesn’t have to be a bear with headaches. Herbal supplements are always a winner. Don’t forget to take a Period Vitamin which contains vitamins like the B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin D and minerals like calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron as well as some herbs that are known for balancing hormones during one’s period. A period vitamin is your insurance that you are getting what you should be getting to support your menstrual cycle.
