If you are experiencing dizziness before or on your period, this could be an important article for you.
Feeling dizzy is not normal. Also, it’s not normal to faint during your period. Dizziness is not usually a symptom of PMS, but it still occurs in women who are in the childbearing years.
However, dizziness has several causes, and one of them is possible vitamin deficiencies. There are four different vitamin deficiencies that could be related to this issue: vitamin B12, B6, vitamin C and vitamin D deficiencies.
1. Vitamin B12 – It’s common for vegetarians to have a vitamin B12 deficiency because vitamin B12 is difficult to absorb from plant sources. Only red meats contain appreciable amounts of vitamin B12, despite what you read online about how spirulina or other foods are the highest sources. What they don’t tell you is that you’d have to eat a sickening amount of spirulina to even make it matter – and then it wouldn’t be as absorbable as what is found in red meats.
Vitamin B12 deficiency causes someone to feel light headed, and as it worsens, vertigo sets in along with staggering and even serious spinal issues. You can take supplements of 500-1000 mcg vitamin B12 (the sublingual version) daily and let it melt underneath your tongue. If your levels are very deficient, then your doctor would give you injections in the buttocks.
2. Vitamin B6 – A vitamin B6 deficiency doesn’t only cause dizziness, but can also cause vomiting. This is why women who are pregnant get morning sickness.
When taking vitamin B6, it’s important to take it with the other B vitamins. If you’re taking a period vitamin, vitamin B6 is already included in it. If you are super stressed, you might opt to take 25mg vitamin B6 with 25 mg vitamin B1 and vitamin B2 in a B complex along with other B vitamins (niacin, pantothenic acid, folic acid, choline, and inositol) daily for a few weeks to boost up the levels.
3. Vitamin C – A vitamin C deficiency is not a usual cause of PMS nausea dizziness but it can cause you to be tired and you can be so tired and fatigued that you get dizziness with your period or maybe even without your period. Thus, if this is happening to you, how to get rid of dizziness during the period is to take supplements.
Many women take a minimum of 1000 mg vitamin C daily for years. Vitamin C can only help you; don’t ever be afraid of it!
4. Vitamin D – A vitamin D deficiency causes ringing in the ears, vertigo, and the feeling that a room is spinning. It’s not a pleasant feeling and can affect your sense of balance.
Your dosage is dependent on how high your vitamin D levels are right now. If they are super low (less than 30 ug/dl), your dosage is 10,000 IU daily for 3 months. If your levels are between 30 ug/dl and 55 ug/dl, then your dosage is 5000 IU daily. If your levels are 55-75 ug/dl, then your dosage is only 5000 IU vitamin D3 three times a week.
Get your levels of vitamin D in the normal zone to prevent this type of dizziness.
Can your period make you dizzy? You bet, but by paying more attention to your diet, your multivitamin mineral (period vitamin), and your lifestyle habits, you can beat it every time.
